What does signing do?

Signing supports putting the county's resolution to a public vote. It does not commit you to voting yes or no. If enough registered voters sign, the resolution goes on the ballot at the next general county election (62 O.S. § 868(H)).

Who may sign?

A registered voter who lives in Pittsburg County. Each person signs only their own name, once. Signing another person's name, signing twice, or signing when not a legal voter is a felony (34 O.S. § 23). Check your registration.

How many signatures are needed?

At least ten percent of the registered voters residing in the county (62 O.S. § 868(B)(2)). Signed pamphlets must be filed with the County Election Board within 30 days after the resolution is adopted.

Why can't I sign online, or on a printed list at a store?

Oklahoma counts only signatures on official petition pamphlets — a signature sheet attached to a full copy of the petition, witnessed by the circulator, and verified by the circulator's notarized affidavit (34 O.S. §§ 3, 6). Signatures on loose or homemade sheets are thrown out (34 O.S. § 6.1).

Which fields decide whether my signature counts?

legal first name, legal last name, zip code, house number, numerical month and day of birth — four of these five must match your voter registration (34 O.S. § 1). Also write your street and city, and sign.

What gets a signature thrown out?

Under 34 O.S. § 6.1 the count excludes:

1. All signatures on any sheet of any petition which is not verified by the person who circulated the sheet of the petition as provided in Section 6 of this title.
2. All signatures of nonresidents.
3. All signatures on a sheet that is not attached to a copy of the petition pamphlet.
4. All multiple signatures on any printed signature line.
5. All signatures not on a printed signature line.
6. Those signatures by a person who signs with any name other than his or her own or signs more than once.
7. All signatures on any sheet on which a notary has failed to sign, the seal of the notary is absent, the commission of the notary has expired or the expiration date is not on the signature sheet.
8. Any signatures that cannot be verified by the Secretary of State with the Oklahoma State Election Board's public voter registration records.

Is my signature public?

Yes. A copy of the petition and all signatures are public records under the Oklahoma Open Records Act (34 O.S. § 3(B)). This website does not collect or store any voter information.
